Today we spotlight Jason Jones. Less than one year on the team and this incredible athlete went to the IRONMAN World Championships in Nice, France in 2023. And he’s only getting faster and better…….

TELL US ABOUT YOUR TRIATHLON JOURNEY:
Over the years I would run to stay in shape. I tried a few organized 5Ks but I did not enjoy navigating the crowd. Running was my decompress from work time. Fall of 2019 my neighbors all purchased road bikes and started joining local group rides. Then the pandemic hit, and I decided to buy a road bike from a garage sale and join the neighborhood crew. I enjoyed the cycle scene, and met several local athletes training for an Ironman. I was always interested in Ironman, but never could find the time. Sean Wilcox convinced me in June of 2022 to just sign up for IM Texas in 2023. So I signed up for my first Ironman. Only then did I realize I couldn’t swim across the pool. Lots of hours with Push Glide Kick, and I did the Oilman Triathlon in the fall of 2022 as a pre-run for Texas. Texas 2023 was great. I had a good time and took a roll down spot for Nice, France. I have since run my first stand-alone marathon, and I am looking forward to this spring race season.

Ironman Texas.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IN THIS SPORT?
Not drowning.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
Learning to swim, efficiently. Learning to pace.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POST RACE FOOD?
All of the food.

I am married to the most amazing woman, Sherri Jones. This year is our 20 year wedding anniversary. I have two kids; Chase 11, and Lorelei 9. Life revolves around Scouts, Soccer, and Dance.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL/PERSONAL LIFE.
I am a Mechanical Engineer by degree and work for Halliburton as a Project Manager. I enjoy metal fabrication, offroad sports, RVs, and generally anything outdoors.
WHAT IS SOMETHING NO ONE WOULD EVER GUESS/KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I have traveled and worked around most of the globe.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THIS TEAM?
The comradery between the team is astounding. Everyone is willing to help or give advice. I could not have done this without the help and support of my team members.

Guadalajara, or Corkscrew. I like food.
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
Any athlete who does this. It takes an enormous sacrifice to dedicate the time and effort to train and compete in these races. I am always amazed at the level of grit and tenacity of my fellow teammates.

WHAT EXCITING PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE NEXT YEAR?
Galveston 70.3 IM, and Texas IM.
